According to Movie of the Night, which I typically use each month to get a good idea of what's leaving each streaming service, Max's Turner Classic Movies channel will be dropping an incredible amount of movies from its service at the end of the month. This appears to include most of its catalog from Akira Kurosawa, Yasujirō Ozu, Orson Welles, and Ingmar Bergman to name just a few. Warner stopped listing upcoming removals from its press releases several months ago so I can't say this is certain to happen but it's definitely concerning. I just wanted to get word out and also see if anyone had heard anything about the latest with TCM as a whole. To do a purge of this kind without any announcement or news would be puzzling.

Max is just slowly dwindling it’s catalogue away. What used to be my favorite streaming service is near last now

That is why physical media rules, next month I’ll still have my Kurosawa, Ozu, Wells and Bergman

  3. There’s about 5-6 Ozu films on Tubi. 3-4 Orson Welles films. Only 1-2 Kurosawa films though

  4. We used to have a channel here called Movies! Most of the time they showed a lot of schlock but they had noirs all day Thursdays and Sundays. Suddenly it disappeared from our screens even though it still shows up on the same channel number in my TV guide. Ever since they took it away, that channel has been showing nothing but classic Hollywood movies from the Golden Era. I wonder if they picked up some of TCM’s programming?

  5. If it helps any, most of these films are shared with Criterion and thus they’ll be on their service.

  6. AT&T ruined WarnerMedia by saddling it with debt and letting it be merged with Discovery Inc. who brought nothing to the table other than some cable channels and cheap reality TV programming.

  7. Collect Blu-ray’s they are cheap and look better than streaming.

Collect Blu-ray’s they are cheap and sound better than streaming.

    Collect Blu-ray’s….

    Own your media.

  8. Wow, quite a few gems are being dropped. Aparajito, L’avventura and Rome, Open City need to be bumped up on my watch list. If you haven’t already, check out Seven Samurai and Fog and War before they go away.

  9. It looks like that site only has Ireland and UK? I also didn’t see those movies on the list, but I’ve never been to the site before. I just looked at the “last chance” section on my max app in the US and didn’t see any of those movies there either.
