That would really explain the heavy pivot back to sequels and such then…

Unfortunately, this isn’t even the most interesting part of the article:
According to sources at IGN, Disney executives blamed the losses of Lightyear (and likely strange world) on the gay relationship in the film, and Rylie’s character was retooled to make her “less gay” in the final version of inside out 2.

No wonder that Pixar is focusing on sequels when they have to make at least $600million.

I don’t understand what profit sharing they’re talking about, it’s not like they’re a separate studio anymore.

People keep saying it’s because of Lasseter’s absence that Pixar been struggling. I strongly disagree, the push for more sequels began during his leadership and the decline of quality in originals began during his leadership.
He’s now running Skydance Animation over at Apple TV+. Skydance Animation is not producing masterpieces that rival 90s/2000s Pixar. They’ve produced boring slop that have all the writing issues that people criticize modern Disney for.
One such example is Wondla. I was a big fan of the books so I was really excited it was getting an adaptation. Lasseter’s Wondla is nothing like the books. The main protagonist in the books was this shy sensitive kid, who messed up a lot, hurt the people she loved unintentionally, and was fearful of nature. Lasseter’s version of the protagonist is basically a Disney Princess who can do anything.
