Maybe 2025 can improve.

  1. On paper at least 2025 should be one of the strongest years they’ve ever had. Wolf Man, M3GAN 2.0, new Insidious, The Black Phone 2, and Five Nights 2.

  2. They’ll be back with a bang next year. Wolf Man, The Woman in the Yard, M3GAN 2.0, a new Insidious movie, The Black Phone 2, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2.

Afraid is going to be one of the few Blumhouse movies that actually loses money. Yikes.

Hopefully their originals next year get some traction because I don’t want to see them become another franchise factory.

  4. Night Swim, Imaginary and Speak No Evil have all been profitable theatrically.

Not huge but with their small budgets Blumhouse has seen a return on investment.

  5. Also, did we ever hear whether Universal renewed their ten year contract that started in 2014? It expired this year?

  6. At least Speak No Evil was a decent movie. After one terrible movie after another streak from Exorcist->(maybe FNAF I skipped)->Night Swim->Imaginary->AfrAId.

I wonder if this slump is a dynamic of artists not bringing their good ideas to Blumhouse anymore. It’s hard for me to believe Jason Blum could get this bad at picking stuff that looks at least decent. Maybe he’s really checked out these days? Their output is so much less interesting than circa 2014/2015 when it was pretty much base hit after base hit after base hit. Even some of the BH Tilt movies were pretty good.

I really wonder what went through the studio executive’s heads when they decied to distritbute Megaflopois. It had “mega bomb” status to begin with, let alone after them giving it a wide release.
