The Creator was released a year ago this week. The $80M film debuted at #3, opening to only $14M and was a financial disappointment overall, only grossing $104M worldwide. Despite that, it went on to receive Academy Award nominations for Special Effects and Sound

  1. I have distinct memories of this coming this time last year, particularly since it came out the same day as Saw X. Both were getting good/decent reviews and I had to choose between the two to spend my allowance on. I decided to check out The Creator because it was an original project and I as I sat there, watching it on a big Dolby screen I vividly remember thinking about 20-30 minutes into the film:

“Man, I really should’ve seen Saw X instead.”

What a waste of semi-interesting character designs and Ken Wantanabe.

  2. Dismissed this out of te gate and later watched it streaming and had a blast, really enjoyed it and wished I’d seen it on a bigger screen. Gareth Edwards has a pretty stellar if underrated filmography.

  3. Bummer. Because the creators saved so much money and gave us a cheaper film that looks and feels very expensive. The $80M Project looked like it was $300M. And it was an original movie which a lot of people want more of.

  4. I was really excited for that one last year. Visually its a really beautiful movie, but the plot and especially the dialogue were a massive letdown for me personally. The pacing was alright, but it just felt very bland and the dialogue was outright cheesy.
Still glad I got to watch it on the big screen though, the visuals made it worth it.
