Great news for this film! For comparison, The Bad Guys opened to $23M & Elemental opened to $29M.

DreamWorks’ biggest non-franchise opener since The Boss Baby’s $50M.

With excellent word of mouth, I think there’s a chance the second weekend drop next frame will be larger than expected just because people don’t want to bring their kids around when Joker is playing.

That’s the third highest opening weekend for an animated film in September after Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 with $42.5M and $48.5M

Hopefully this can leg out like Elemental with the help of Weekends and Tuesday Discounts with no competition till Moana 2

  4. AWESOME! That’s 10M more than Transformers One. If you told me a month ago an original non sequel animated movie with no ongoing base would top a 7th entry in a LONG going franchise with tons of “hype” I’d call you crazy.

“But no one wants original movies/not so established IPs after the pandemic” 🗣️🗣️ the industry continues to recover.

  6. This actually had really good ads. Made it easy to tell right away what the draw and hook was. Unlike transformers

  7. Great result for a gorgeous, *gorgeous* film. But don’t take my word for it. Go see it yourself!

  8. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is most satisfied, and 1 is least, how would you rate my performance?

    [sees 35M opening]

    I will register that as a 10.

  9. Great start for a truly fantastic movie with a lot of heart. Hopefully it ends up having great legs.
