Obviously this doesn’t work for everything but there is something fun about a good narrator for a trailer, those of us old enough will remember the god Don Lafontaine. I think it was a fun way to break down the plot of a movie without forcing in trailer exclusive dialogue (Dakota Johnson could’ve been spared saying “he was studying spiders in the Amazon with my mom before she died”). All I know is if I saw a movie trailer for something kind of throwback-ey and a narrator started talking I’d stand and cheer.
Would you be happy to hear narration come back to trailers? What are some of your favorite narrated trailers? I think the trailer for The Thirteenth Warrior perfectly captures that nostalgia

I miss short trailers that weren’t 3act sagas within themselves.
In a World… (2013) Lake Bell & Fred Melamed. Starz.
An underachieving voice coach finds herself competing in the movie trailer voice-over profession against her arrogant father and his protégé.
In a World… featuring Lake Bell and Fred Melamed.
In a world where movie trailer narration was a thing of the past, this was a land that prayed for a hero.

“*In a world where blah blah blah is blah blah blah…*”
I do miss that, made the movie seem like an event worthy of my attention.
Nowadays, we get a mini-trailer before the actual trailer because people’s attention spans have been absolutely fried.
Don died, and nobody could fill his shoes, plus movie trailers just evolved, like they always have.
I miss it, too, but it was always going to happen.
