I heard England was trying to sue them as well. They basically called what they did extortion, which I believe is pretty fucking accurate.

I may just be a small-town bird lawyer, but I have to guess that if they didn’t default every paying customer to the ad tier, this lawsuit wouldn’t happen.
They probably would have gotten a better result if they’d raised Prime by like $2 or $3 (whatever the upcharge is), thus the 100mil current subscribers all get hit with the charge, while you also introduce the ad-free tier… a few paying customers may bitch, they may switch to the lower tier, but a large part of them would probably have just eaten the fee and not made a peep.
