Justin should sell. Fighting them is not worth it. They have hundreds of millions of dollars and he should just make them pay for it and give him a percentage of the profits in perpetuity. She wants her vanity project? Pay for it and keep himself paid for a long time.

My opinion of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds is ridiculously low now. Before I was fairly neutral but after this debacle, I genuinely cannot stand either of them. In contrast, I think Justin Baldoni has handled himself really well. I don’t know how much attachment he has to the franchise, but I would totally understand stepping away and letting Blake run it into the ground.

I was surprised to see Justin Baldoni pop up as an executive producer on the Netflix doc Will & Harper, about Will Ferrell and his friend, former SNL head writer Harper Steele, a trans woman who transitioned a few years ago (BTW, the movie was excellent). To me, it is just further evidence of JB’s unproblematic ally behavior.

I LOATHE the parallel narrative this has turned into. Somehow Baldoni is the “abusive guy” and Reynolds is the “saviour” and there is a blonde damsel in faux distress.

Would it not be weird if Justin was not in the follow up movie? I haven’t read the books because I don’t care for the author, but isn’t his character in the second one?
This whole situation is just ick. Everything I have seen from Justin over the years he seems like a decent dude. He was friends with prior costars. He made that cute movie Clouds. He chooses projects with meaning. Whereas Blake and Ryan are all about the money. I used to feel indifferent when them, but now I have decided they are just crap people.

It’s a win win for Justin. At least he had the foresight to buy the rights for both books at the same time.

Justin should sell for an exorbitant amount and get out of this trainwreck with a pretty penny

I hope he does. Justin was the only person who knew the gravity of what he was part of and actually took it seriously. Without him the whole series will go downhill so fast. Justin doesn’t need these adult high schoolers in his life. He can work on much better projects.

They don’t gain a lot by buying him out of the movie.
They do gain a lot by buying him out of the movie for enough $$$ that he is also willing to sign a really airtight NDA about any experiences he had that could negatively affect their brand…

I have no inside info whatever, but just putting together the tidbits of background info I’ve read, it sounds very much like Justin bought the film rights to the book before the book’s popularity exploded, and then Blake and Ryan (and maybe the author of the book) thought they could step in and use their power in the industry to pressure Justin to sell the rights to them so that they could develop it as some star vehicle for Blake. When that didn’t work, they went behind Justin’s back to try and influence the film in their vision anyway, plus smeared him in the press. And now it sounds like the bullying has continued (which is crazy poor judgment on Ryan and Blake’s part given that the first part of their plan for the film didn’t seem to work well at all). I’d refuse to sell to them out of spite, honestly.

What is with this obsession??? Sure it made a little money, but it completely changed the public perception of BL on a mass scale — and RR took some shrapnel too! I would be trying to get as far away from this stupid property and the bad press that came with it. All of this is insane.
