  1. I don’t know man. It feels like he would have been fine If the contestants had just sent someone vaguely Asian to present their product. They say they work together with Taiwanese people but it’s not enough cause it doesn’t say that the product is Taiwanese? Just seems kinda weird to me

  2. Never in my life did I think I would ever agree with Simu Liu on anything. The way they spoke about how people are unsure of what is in boba or that it is no longer ethnically Asian is so insane to me. The microaggressions in this video are infuriating and the misinformation they stated gave off MSG vibes.

As a Mexican I feel the exact same way as Simu does when non Latines start tequila brands. It’s culturally dismissive and offensive to say you are making something better than the creators, they are not revolutionizing anything when there are Asian brands who have already created ready to go alcoholic boba. They are not the first, step in a Asian market and they are right there in the coolers.

I saw some Asian activist in tiktok agreeing with Simon and it it right, seeing thei are improve an Asian drink is dismissive

Lots of non French Canadians sell poutine…

lots of non polish people sell pierogis…

the McDonald brothers were not German American, they were Irish American- and boy howdy do we not question them selling hamburgers…

I can’t tell you how many top notch slices of pizza I’ve had made and sold to me by Vietnamese folks.

    The list goes and on.

“But this is a product not a restaurant” well that seems like a mighty fine hair to split to me.

My opinion? He could probably take a breath and step off his soap box here.

  5. Fuck them for starting off the pitch with “never quite sure where it came from” as if all the shops (usually owned by Asians) in Canada are cutting the tapioca with sawdust or something.

  6. shoutout the the other dragons/judges for either being silent or gaslighting Simu’s concerns

Good for him. I always hated that idea that these distinctly ethnic food items can only ever be trendy/cross over if they’re packaged and presented to the masses by a white person *for* white people. He even attempted to give them the benefit of the doubt by asking who they’re consulting about the boba.

I thought the lady in the pink was being willfully obtuse when she tried to criticize him for expressing his doubts and concerns.

Wow opinions are very divided on this thread 😳 I have no opinion, I am not Asian or of Asian decent so I feel like whatever I say wouldn’t add to the discussion. Just noticed the extreme division here.

  9. *Gives Simu a look like they’re trying to murder him with their eyes*

    “I respect that”

  10. So, do we shut down all Taco Bell for not being represented and served by Mexican people? It’s 100% a bastardisation of Mexican food but is consistently voted the #1 Mexican restaurant in the US! 🤢 What about Panda Express? Asian food done poorly and inaccurately! Pizza Hut? What would Itsly think of that fat-ass stuffed crust?! (Mmm stuffed crust)

I mean, plenty of people sell or alter the food of other ethnicities, and they have throughout all of history. This is the weirdest, dumbest reaction I have ever seen. Do Koreans have to stop selling their magical version of Fried Chicken since it is technically American? C
Are we pissing on Japan by making Maruchen Ramen? I mean… This makes zero sense. Everyone knows Boba is Asian. No one non Asian can ever make or sell it, then? Like I said, we would have to shut down every major restaurant out there! What would this dude think about Chili’s Southwest Egg Rolls. Those jerks! How dare they! No more Coq au Vin at home, guys! We have to find Jacques Pepín to make it for us, and we have to acknowledge France as we are eating it.

So so so many things ARE cultural appropriation and they are NOT OK! But this isn’t it, bro…

I think this is a bit of an overreaction. Yes, the creators could have been more respectful in their presentation, but Simu is such a drama queen. Does anyone else get the worst vibes from him? I’d give him a very wide berth if I met him irl because he seems to thrive off of conflict and attention.

Omg I have a beverage business in Canada about their size and people have told me to do dragon’s den and I COULD NOT.

Not sure how this shitty bastardization of boba made it on though. The branding is hideous.
