This was a live action Saturday morning sci fi adventure series, it involved young teen cadets who were lost in space aboard their ship trying to get back home. 13 episodes were produced but only 8 episodes aired and as far as I know has never been released on any home video format, I think episodes did play on Disney at some point, the show originally aired on ABC. The show was created by some of the people who had worked on Babylon 5 and it even used to same software to create special effects.
This show was epic, it had action, sci fi worlds, aliens giant mechs and the intro always got me pumped for the episode Hypernauts 1996 Intro Opening (youtube.com) it pretty much gives a good idea what to expect on the show
