Where the Wild Things Are turns 15 years old this week. The Spike Jonze-directed adaptation of the popular children’s book was a financial disappointment grossing $100M against a $100M budget, likely due to its dark, melancholic tone. Despite that, the film received positive reviews from critics.

This movie should have been made decades ago when scary kids stuff was more popular. Like **Never Ending Story**/**Jabberwoky**.

Great movie, but it was obviously doomed. It’s a miracle something like this exists in the first place, so it being a hit would be too much to hope for.

It took me a rewatch or two for this to really connect. My mom, however, thinks this, La La Land, and Osmosis Jones are the worst movies I’ve gotten her to watch.
