I bet a lot of entertainment reporters’ jobs got so much easier once Apple introduced automated transcripts.

You don’t have to be “funny” for comedy, straight acting gets it done, if the material is funny. But for Robin Williams and his kind, the material isn’t always why it’s funny.

>After Richter noted that Bowen must have eventually gained her comedic footing to succeed on a wildly popular sitcom like Modern Family, she responded, “You’ll notice I didn’t do too many jokes. I fell down a lot.”
Weird, I thought she got a ton of jokes and was one of the funniest ones.

She is good as Claire. And beautiful!

She had some jokes but always felt Claire was written to be the straight man in the show, even more than Jay.

She was written and acted perfectly for Claire’s character, tbh. You know Julie Bowen and the writers did great job when a good chunk of viewers could imagine falling in love with or choosing Claire as a partner over, say, someone like Gloria who society would normally deem as physically “hotter” or “more conventionally attractive” (to put it very simply and in a semi-shawllow way, with much respect to Gloria’s character of course).

Yeah and Ian Mckellen wasn’t actually able to cast spells. It’s called writing, directing and acting.
She is hilarious and such a pleasure to work with. I was lucky enough to have a one line part on Modern Family for an episode and got to work with her directly. She was really inviting and liked talking with everyone. The thing that really stood out is at the end of the day as I was leaving the set she remembered my name and and said I did great. She’s really funny in person too
