Emma Roberts says ‘MADAME WEB’ would’ve turned out better if everyone didn’t meme about it.

“If it wasn’t for internet culture and everything being made into a joke, I think that the reception would’ve been different. And that’s what bums me out about a lot of stuff, even stuff that I’ve done, is people just make such a joke out of everything now.”

  1. Meme’s can make good money for movies, admittedly i’ve only really seen that with the Gentle Minions and Barbenheimer stuff but….. those are pretty good data points tbh.

Sorry, Emma. **Madame Web** was a complete train wreck that was doomed to fail, not to mention that Internet memes don’t usually contribute to a film’s success or failure that much.

  3. I watched it a few months ago. It was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It took itself completely seriously which really hurt it.

  4. Yeah totally.

The memes are responsible for the 11% rotten Tomotes score, the 2nd lowest of any superhero movie in the last 10-ish years.

I feel it’s quite the opposite. I think more people went to see “Madame Web” than they otherwise would have because of the memes, because they were curious about whether or not it was actually as bad as they heard. After all, “Madame Web” is the only superhero film that you’re ever going to see where the final boss villain gets killed off by Pepsi product placement.

This movie was always going to bomb, because it’s really not good, but the memes helped it more than they hurt it.
