  1. > The Academy Screening Room made its first titles available Friday to membership, with Thelma from Magnolia Pictures; Shirley, Hit Man and the animated Ultraman: Rising all from Netflix; plus Wildcat released by Oscilloscope Laboratories on the platform. That list is sure to grow much bigger as the nascent season moves along. The cost, as of last season, is $20,000 for studio movies, and $8,000 for those from the indie sector.

  2. Ya know what sucks is that the movie Shirley got less press coverage than Regina King on a talkshow talking about her dead son, meant to promote the movie.

  3. Am I the only one who thinks Hit Man was overrated?

And my money’s on Dune 2. For every category.

  4. Hit Man blew me away with the amount of comedy and romance that it could cram into what was ultimately a neo-noir crime thriller

  5. LONGLEGS still the best movie I saw this year, no matter what wins

    not ooooonncce

    not. twwwwiiiiiiicccee

but as many times as i LIIIIIIIIIIKKKKKKKKKEE

  6. I’d still give Dune 2 best picture, best director, best visual effects, best actor (timothee), best supporting actress (Rebecca Ferguson), best supporting actor (javier bardem), best original score, best production design, best adapted screenplay, best costume design, best cinematography, best editing, and best sound.

    I liked Dune 2

  7. My current best picture predictions are: Anora*, Blitz*, The Brutalist*, A Complete Unknown, Conclave*, Dune Part II*, Emilia Perez*, The Life of Chuck*, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing

(*) means I’m certain it’ll get in no matter what

  8. The fuck is Hitman doing there

It’s a nice comedy that you would watch on a plane flight, but that’s it

  9. Thelma and Hit Man were way better than I expected, especially the latter. Probably my surprise of the year.

  10. Hit Man is not Oscar worthy AT ALL. It is a painfully overrated, mediocre movie. The plot is the most ridiculous shit I’ve seen in a long time. The leads have no romantic chemistry; they’re just hot people having sex. The ending is not earned. The phone notes scene is basic as hell and has been done in other movies and TV already.

Not one aspect of that movie deserves an Oscar worthy level of praise.
