BRIAN TYLER is an award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist, and conductor whose illustrious film-scoring career spans over 100 films and a total gross of over $13B worldwide. He has written scores for the blockbuster Marvel franchise (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World), worldwide phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians, as well as Illumination’s highest-grossing film to date The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which broke multiple box-office records, as well as the films of the Fast & Furious franchise.

Tyler’s television credits include widely successful shows such as Yellowstone (franchise), Scorpion, Magnum PI, Hawaii Five-0, Sleepy Hollow, and Transformers: Prime.
In 2018, Tyler was tapped by Formula 1 to compose the internationally revered sport’s theme song, which airs during the global broadcast of every race to an audience of millions. In 2015, Tyler composed the theme for the U.S. Open Golf Championships which also airs annually.
The award-winning multi-instrumentalist and composer’s accolades include 12 Goldspirit Awards, 34 BMI Music Awards, 5 ASCAP Music Awards, 4 Emmy® Award nominations, an HMMA Award and a BAFTA nomination, among others. In 2010, Mr. Tyler was inducted into the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2022, he was awarded the BMI Icon Award for his exceptional body of work and phenomenal success as a composer, orchestral conductor, and music producer.
Current projects include the score for the forthcoming film Transformers One, which will be released in theaters on September 20, 2024. The film’s soundtrack features “If I Fall,” the powerful anthem from Quavo, Ty Dolla $ign, and Are We Dreaming (Brian Tyler’s alter ego). It serves as the first introduction into Tyler’s Are We Dreaming world – more to come soon!

Given the direction toward homogenization in movie music since, say, the 90s, have you noticed a shift in that time how studios/producers/directors approach movie music? Either what they ask of you and how much freedom you have?
Similarly there seems to be a trend at least in some quarters towards some using movie music as wallpaper/sound effects in preference to (apparently old fashioned) leitmotific writing? Is this my imagination or is this something you’ve noticed?
