marpessa dawn was born in philadelphia and migrated to england where she first started to act in small tv roles. once she moved to france, her career as a model and actress really took off. she performed in theatre and in film with her most esteemed role being that of eurydice in *black orpheus* [slides 1, 7 & 12 are stills from that film].
although she continued to act for several years, both in film and on stage, little is known about her career and life. what’s certain is that her presence in film left an indellible impression and helped inspire black actresses around the world.
